While I’m not a big Starbucks fan, I can admit that they know what they’re doing when it comes to creative coffee drinks.

But here’s the deal, recreating your favorite coffee drink is actually super easy, especially when it comes to this Pistachio Latte.

All you need is 4 ingredients (pistachio cream, coffee, milk, and heavy cream) and a few minutes to throw it together.

How to Make A Pistachio Latte, Step by Step

Make it extra fancy: spread a spoonful of the pistachio cream in the base of your cup for some extra sweetness and color!

Finding the Right Pistachio Butter

In testing this recipe and trying different Pistachio Lattes (both at Starbucks, in Italy, and at local coffee shops), I’ve found that the less bright green the latte, the stronger the pistachio flavor.

This may seem counterintuitive, but it’s for a good reason.

Pistachio cream is typically browner in color when made up of a higher percentage of pistachios. That bright green color is often the result of other added ingredients. For this reason, the color of the product varies a lot depending on the brand.

This Italian Pistachio Cream is made up of 45% pistachios, resulting in a muted green (almost brown) color. Alternatively if you want that bright green color, you could go with this brighter green Pistachio Butter (the one I used) that’s made up of 28% pistachios.

The choice is entirely yours!

Coffee Tools

While I love using an espresso machine, it’s not necessary to make a tasty latte. A strongly brewed coffee will work great. To achieve this, feel free to use a pour over, French press, or whatever tool is accessible to you.

If you don’t have any frothing tools: add the pistachio cream and heavy cream to a mason jar, cover with a tight fitted lid and shake vigorously until creamy smooth and frothy.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 tbsp pistachio cream
  • 2 shots espresso or strong coffee of choice
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk of choice

Instructions

  1. Brew the espresso. Add half of the pistachio cream to a cup and brew the espresso directly over it. Stir to combine.
  2. Make the pistachio foam. Combine the remaining pistachio cream with the heavy cream. Blend together using a frothing tool of choice (a steamer works if you’d like a hot drink).
  3. Assemble the latte. Spread a small spoonful of the pistachio cream in your cup. Add ice if you’d like an iced latte. Pour in milk of choice. Top with the pistachio espresso and then the cold foam and stir everything together.
