5 Ingredient Coffee Mint Mojito (Philz Coffee Copycat)
If you reside in a similar corner of the internet as I do, chances are you’ve heard of the viral Philz Coffee Mint Mojito. It’s an incredible iced coffee drink made with muddled fresh mint and brown sugar, perfect for the upcoming summer months. To make your own at home, you’ll need only five simple ingredients: coffee, fresh mint, milk, brown sugar, and ice!
The closest Philz Coffee location is about 700 miles from my house, which means I don’t have the ease of ordering their famous coffee mint mojito on a regular basis.
And because their coffee shops are mostly located in California, chances are many of you are in the same boat. So until we can convince one of our local coffee shops to add this delicious drink to their menu, we’ll have to settle for making it at home.
The good news? This drink is super easy to make in under 10 minutes with 5 simple ingredients.
It’s actually such a simple recipe that it’s become my new go-to as the warmer months creep in here in the Pacific Northwest. The most involved step is reaching my cocktail shaker off the top shelf in my kitchen.
This refreshing iced coffee drink starts with fresh mint (bonus points if you have some growing like a weed in your yard) and brown sugar. The two ingredients get muddled together for a sweet & fragrant base, then we add our coffee and shake everything up. You can shake the milk/cream with everything or pour it in at the very end.
In this version of the copycat recipe I’m using a combo of espresso and oat milk, but I’ve had success using drip coffee and half-and-half and even instant coffee and whole milk. Keep reading for my notes on leaning fully into the mojito influence to make this a cocktail!
And if you’re into experimenting with more fun coffee or mint drinks, I recommend trying this popular Mediterranean style Mint Lemonade, then taking a spin at making your own cold brew coffee and Moroccan spice infused coffee.
What You’ll Need
- fresh mint leaves + more for garnish: Don’t skip the sprig of mint at the end as your garnish. This hits your nose every time you take a drink, really enhancing that mint flavor in the drink.
- brown sugar: regular white sugar will work too if it’s all you’ve got
- espresso or drip coffee, cooled to room temperature: use what you’ve got! I’ve made this with instant coffee, drip, espresso, they were all great.
- milk or cream of choice: I usually use oat milk, but you can use creamer, half and half, heavy cream, etc.
- handful of ice: I highly encourage adding some ice to the cocktail shaker and to the glass you’re serving this in. The ice in the shake helps to break up the sugar.

How to Make a Coffee Mint Mojito
The trick to really infusing the coffee mint mojito with that signature minty flavor is muddling the mint and brown sugar together, prior to adding any of the liquids. Don’t skip this step!

Special Equipment
While it isn’t 100% necessary, there’s something really magical about making this coffee mint mojito in a cocktail shaker.
Although it’s an alcohol free version of the classic cocktail, shaking it up really helps the coarse brown sugar and mint to infuse into the coffee and milk, resulting in a more delicious drink.
If you don’t have a cocktail shaker or feel like dirtying one, feel free to mix everything together in a large glass. Just make sure to mix things up really well!
Make It A Cocktail
If you’re looking to lean into the mojito element of this drink even more, add an ounce or two of rum to the mix before shaking and make it a cocktail!
And please remember to always drink responsibly.
