Refreshing Guava Margarita with Tequila
This refreshing Guava Margarita is an incredibly fruity and tropical spin on the classic tequila cocktail. Made with guava juice, a splash of coconut milk, plus all the traditional margarita components, it’s a perfect treat to enjoy on a warm day.
It’s no secret that I’m a lover of tropical cocktails, especially rum or tequila based ones.
There’s just something special about the combination of tropical fruit when combined with a high quality liquor.
In this guava margarita we’re combining both guava juice (or nectar or puree if that’s what you’ve got) and coconut milk for a sweet and tangy flavor profile that pairs really well with the traditional margarita mix of tequila and lime.
And like most classic cocktails, this one gets shaken up in a matter of minutes. Served alongside a bowl of these crunchy deep fried plantain chips, the party is just waiting to happen!
Ingredients
Step by Step Instructions
Want a spicy margarita? Easily transform your guavarita into a spicy margarita by muddling a few jalapeño slices in the base of your cocktail shaker before adding remaining ingredients.
Using Fresh Guava
If you are lucky enough to get your hands on some ripe guava fruit you’d like to use, it will totally level up your guava margarita!
Here’s what to do:
- Start by scooping the pulp out, to separate the fruit from the skin
- Add (pulp, seeds and all!) to the base of your cocktail shaker and muddle
- Add the remaining ingredients (skipping the guava puree or juice) as well as ½ oz of grenadine for color
- Shake, strain (to remove any seeds), and enjoy!
Perfect Pairings
Here are some of my favorite bites to serve alongside margaritas:
Pro Tips
- Prep & chill the glass – take a few minutes to make a tasty tajin rim (using lime juice, agave, or chamoy to get it to stick) and throw the glass in the freezer; you can thank me later!
- Shake with ice! This step can feel unnecessary when you’re serving over ice in the end, but it makes all the difference by chilling the margarita.
- Don’t skip the garnish. A fun garnish will always take your drink to the next level, making the drinking experience feel that much more special.
Bar Tools
You’ll need some sort of jigger and cocktail shaker to make this drink.
I’m a big fan of this glass shaker, but any kind will do the trick. In a pinch, you can always make it work with a big mason jar and a tight fitting lid. Use what have in your kitchen!

Fresh guava: If you have fresh guava fruit you’d like to use, scoop the pulp out of the guava and add to the base of your cocktail shaker first. Muddle before adding the remaining ingredients (skipping the guava puree or juice) as well as ½ oz of grenadine (for color).
