Crispy Plantain Salad (Tostones Salad)
This Crispy Plantain Salad combines crunchy tostones with fresh herbs and a creamy dressing for a super unique bite. Loaded with Puerto Rican flavor, this salad is inspired by the viral crispy potato salad I’ve been seeing all over Tiktok.
I’ve never had a plantain I didn’t love and this crispy tostones salad is no exception.
There’s something about the crispy fried pieces of plantain that get coated with a creamy, yogurt based sauce that makes for a super addicting bite. It’s like dipping your tostones in mayoketchup, but way better.
The crispy edges of the fried plantains soak up all of the lime juice, sazon, and fresh herbs we’re using in the base of the salad, making for a super unique experience, both in textures and flavors.
This is hardly one of the traditional Puerto Rican recipes I grew up with, but it does pull from classic Puerto Rican staples like tostones, sazon seasoning, lime juice, and cilantro.

Special Equipment
If you’ve made tostones before, chances are you’ve heard of a tostonera. This is a special tool designed for smashing plantains before the second fry.
You can totally buy one and use it here, but I find that smashing the fried plantains between two small plates works great! The choice is yours.
