Loaded hummus, it’s a thing.

We’ve all tried hummus at this point in our lives. But have you tried loaded hummus?

The concept is super simple. It’s basically hummus with a bunch of toppings. Kind of like a salad. Or a 7 layer dip. But much better.

Because this recipe requires no oven, no stove top, and no heat whatsoever. All you’ll need is a food processor.

Just pulse up a batch of this super creamy homemade hummus in a matter of minutes, then spread it on a plate or bowl, and sprinkle with all of your favorite toppings!

Serve it with some pita chips, pita bread, or eat it directly out of the bowl with a spoon like me.

Ingredients

For the Hummus:

Optional Toppings:

  • olive oil
  • cherry tomatoes (halved)
  • kalamata olives (halved and pitted)
  • feta cheese (crumbled)

Step by Step Instructions

  1. Combine all hummus ingredients. In a food processor combine the drained and rinsed garbanzo beans, garlic or toum, lemon juice, tahini, salt, paprika and ice cubes.
  2. Process until smooth. Puree until smooth and creamy, adding additional ice cubes if needed.
  3. Optional: Add toppings. Spread your hummus on a platter and drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with additional paprika, tomatoes, olives, and feta.
  4. Enjoy! Serve and enjoy.

I highly recommend cooking your chickpeas from scratch for the best quality hummus. Bonus points if you have time to remove the peels, as this helps result in an even creamier hummus.

The Ice Cube Trick

You may be asking yourself why you need ice cubes to make a whipped dip like hummus.

This ingredient may seem super random, but it’s proven time and time again to result in super creamy and fluffy hummus!

I can’t explain how they make such a difference, you truly just have to trust me, or try it yourself and taste the difference.

More Tasty Topping Ideas

There are so many fabulous ways to top your hummus, so feel free to get creative here. One topping that goes with all of these combinations? Olive oil!

Here are some more tasty ideas:

  • toasted pine nuts with a squeeze of lemon juice and fresh herbs
  • paprika and diced roasted red peppers
  • roasted chickpeas with spices
  • chopped cucumber, tomatoes, and olives
  • diced pickled red onions

I also love cooking up some diced lamb or beef with Moroccan spices (like this ras el hanout blend) and adding it directly over my hummus when I’m in the mood for something super hearty.

Happy cooking!
