This golden rice is slow cooked, infused with onions, garlic, turmeric and fluffed with Ahara Rasa’s turmeric black pepper ghee. I’ve been using it in my lunches with grilled chicken and a simple cucumber salad with greek yogurt. It’s gluten free, ready in 25 minutes and makes an excellent side dish.
Turmeric Black Pepper Ghee
I’ve talked a lot about the health benefits of turmeric over on my instagram page, and chances are you’ve probably heard a thing or two about the popular spice. People are mixing it into their coffee, milk and smoothies. They’re using it to season their veggie bowls. They’re taking it in capsule form. People are using it to create golden rice and turmeric black pepper ghee!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But what’s the big deal? Why should you eat Turmeric?
The main active ingredient in Turmeric is something called Curcumin, which has A TON of health benefits. It:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. acts as an anti-inflammatory & antioxidants
2. lowers risk of heart disease
3. helps prevent cancer & alzhiemer’s disease
4. combats depression
5. has anti-aging benefits ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So clearly turmeric is an excellent addition to your diet. It has a sweet and spicy flavor that I really like to use with veggies like onions, carrots and sweet potatoes.
While you can absolutely make this rice with a traditional ghee or even olive oil or a few tablespoons of butter, Ahara’s Turmeric Black Pepper Ghee is truly a game changer. This ghee is slowly roasted with organic turmeric root and organic freshly ground black peppercorns and then strained to remove all of the milk solids, making it lactose free. The color of it is a beautiful golden yellow just like turmeric. I highly recommend buying a jar of this stuff; it goes great drizzled over freshly popped popcorn, as a cooking oil for chicken, or with roasted veggies.
That said, if you can’t get your hands on a jar, using butter or olive oil and turmeric will still give you the same beautiful golden rice we are looking for!

This Golden Rice with Turmeric Black Pepper Ghee does not contain the following allergens:Print
This golden rice is slow cooked, infused with onions, garlic, turmeric and fluffed with Ahara Rasa’s turmeric black pepper ghee.
-2 tbsp Ahara turmeric black pepper ghee (or olive oil or butter)
-2 cloves garlic
-a small red chili pepper, minced finely
-1 cup basmati rice, rinsed
-3/4 tbsp turmeric
-1 1/2 cups water
-salt & pepper to taste
- In a nonstick saucepan or pot, add your chopped onion, chili pepper and 1 tbsp of the ghee.
- Saute for 2-3 minutes on medium heat.
- Toss in minced garlic and continue to cook for another minute.
- Add in rice and turmeric and mix to coat.
- Add in water and bring to a boil.
- Cover, lower to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes.
- Fluff cooked rice with remaining tbsp of ghee. Enjoy!
