Whether you’re a tea or coffee drinker, chances are you’ve had a sugar cube before. Surprisingly enough, these crystallized sugar blocks aren’t always easy to find at the store.
While you can buy them online, I recommend making your own with two simple ingredients.
They are extremely easy to make and are great to have on hand as a single serve sweetener for guests when serving cold brew coffee, Moroccan style coffee, mint tea, or your favorite beverage.
Instructions
Tip: make sure to cover the molds before storing for 8+ hours to keep them clean and dry.
Variations
Because this recipe is so simple, it’s very easy to adapt to your liking. Here are some ideas to take your sugar cubes to the next level:
- Add color – add a few drops of your favorite food coloring and watch these turn into whatever color you like!
- Add flavor – use a drop of your favorite edible extract (like almond or coconut) and enjoy sugar with a twist.
- Fun shapes – shape these into whatever shape you can find of silicone molds and surprise your guests with the most creative sweetener ever.

These sugar cubes keep great in an air tight jar or bag for up to 1 month in your pantry or fridge.

This has been a life saver! My local international food market stopped selling these cute Serbian heart-shaped sugar cubes, and I was gutted. Then I found this recipe and now I’ve made all sorts of fun shapes at home! I have hearts, stars, cinnamon & sugar roses, pink strawberry Hello Kitty cubes, etc. Thanks, Salima!
