Description

This mouth-watering queso frito is perfectly crispy on the outside and ooey-gooey melty on the inside. Made with just 2 ingredients, they’re an easy, finger-licking treat. These deep fried cheese bites have a deliciously salty flavor, and are even better paired with a super simple homemade guava dipping sauce.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 16 oz queso de freir
  • 4 cups oil (vegetable or canola)

For the guava dipping sauce (optional):

  • 7 oz guava paste
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. (Optional) Prep the guava sauce. Dice the guava paste into cubes. In a saucepan combine the paste cubes and water. Cook on medium low until the paste dissolves and becomes liquid, adding more water if necessary. Stir in the lemon juice, cover, remove from the heat and set the sauce aside.
  2. Cube the queso de freir. Cut the block of cheese into large cubes. Pat the cubes dry with a paper or clean kitchen towel.
  3. Fry the queso. Heat the oil to 350°F in a deep fryer or pot. Fry the cheese cubes until golden brown and crispy all around.
  4. Cool & enjoy. Transfer the cheese to a paper towel lined plate to drain any excess oil. Serve with guava sauce, if desired.
