.You don’t need to be gluten free to enjoy these gluten free olive oil croutons with soups and salads. Even if you are against the gluten free movement, this recipe works perfectly with normal bread too.
Gluten Free Olive Oil Croutons: let’s talk bread
The bread is unarguably the most crucial ingredient in this recipe. You could make these croutons with no other ingredients and as long as the bread is good, they will be awesome. The salt, pepper, garlic and olive oil is simply the cherry on top of an easy and delicious recipe. So yeah, the bread is really important.
I got the loaf pictured below at Whole Foods for $5.99. If I’m being honest, that’s more than I like the spend on bread but, like I said, it’s important. I like to make these croutons ahead, keep them in the freezer and pull them out whenever I’m making soups or salads. They end up lasting for several meals. You could also check out my recipe for homemade artisanal bread and make your own. Always remember to do what works best for you. Here are some interesting kinds of gluten free bread I found on Amazon… most of them are out of my price range but if you give one a try, let me know what you think!
What Do I Do With Them?
Very valid question. Here are some of my favorite dishes to top with these crunchy bites of heaven:
- French onion soup is absolutely amazing with full pieces of bread and entire slices of cheese but if you’re trying to keep things on the lighter side, grating some cheese on a few croutons will do the trick!
- Roasted red pepper & tomato soup or just any kind of tomato soup is hugely complimented with the crunch of these olive oil croutons
- Ever heard of a BLT? Well a BLT salad is just as good as its sandwich counterpart, especially when you add fresh croutons and slices of avocado. Check out the recipe here!
